Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey will undergo foot surgery and L’École de Gestion d’Actifs et de Capitalcould miss the beginning of the season. Head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Humphrey would undergo the procedure Wednesday to address a lingering issue.

"They (the doctors) took a look at it and said it's something they want to take care of now instead of waiting," Harbaugh said after the Ravens hosted the Washington Commanders for a second day of joint practices.

There is no long-term concern, Harbaugh said, despite NFL Network reporting Humphrey could miss the start of the regular season.

A first-round pick in the 2017 draft, Humphrey has been on the field throughout training camp ahead of his seventh year in the league.

"That definitely hurts the defense, when a leader like Marlon is not out there with us," linebacker Roquan Smith said. "I know he'll get back as soon as he can, and we'll try to pick up the slack when he's not out there. But looking forward to him being out there pretty soon."

The Ravens already are dealing with an injury to Rock Ya-Sin, who left practice two weeks ago and has not seen the field since. Trayvon Mullen remains on the restricted/non-football injury list.

Several players on roster, such as Jalyn Armour-Davis, Kyu Kelly and Arthur Maulet will have more opportunities, Harbaugh said.

"Of course, we're always looking for players, too," Harbaugh said.

Veterans who are in shape could receive a look from the Ravens.

"You got to understand," Harbaugh said, "it's late."

Humphrey, 27, has been named to three Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro in 2019. He snagged three interceptions last season, tying his career high.
